Housing Justice Series: Uprooted

The NAACP Virginia State Conference Housing Committee is launching the Housing Justice Series, an initiative to recognize and address racism in urban development and rental housing practices across Virginia.

The first installment in the series features the powerful short documentary, “Uprooted,” which examines what a Black community lost when a Virginia university expanded — highlighting displacement, erasure of generational wealth, and the long-term impact of institutional growth on historically Black neighborhoods.

The documentary screening will be followed by a virtual roundtable discussion, providing space for reflection, dialogue, and solutions-based conversation around housing justice and equity.
