NAACP Virginia

Statement from Rev. Cozy Bailey, Sr., President of the NAACP Virginia State Conference

I am deeply saddened by this tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Fairfax and Wanzer families and their loved ones, especially Justin and Cerina’s children, during this incredibly difficult time.

It is essential that we cultivate an environment where seeking help is encouraged, supported, and free from discrimination.

Let us take a moment to remember the significant contributions made by Justin and Cerina Fairfax:

As Lieutenant Governor, Justin Fairfax cast the pivotal tie-breaking vote to expand Medicaid, ensuring healthcare access for over 550,000 Virginians. His advocacy for criminal justice reform, voting rights, and women’s rights has left an indelible mark on our community.

Dr. Cerina W. Fairfax, an accomplished dentist, was known for her expertise in general and cosmetic dentistry. Her dedication to her practice and the community will be remembered fondly.

In honoring their legacies, we must continue to strive for a society that prioritizes mental health support and champions the rights of all individuals.

Help is available with the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling 988, and the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.
