We need you to contact the Senate Committee on Rules and tell them to vote YES on House Joint Resolution 549 during their upcoming meeting on February 24, 2021.
HJ549 directs the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission to study the impact of COVID-19 on Virginia’s public schools, students, and school employees, including examining the overall impact of COVID-19 face-to-face learning restrictions on previously existing student achievement gaps, including any disproportionate impact on at-risk populations. Additionally, research will be conducted on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on staffing levels, including the impact of teacher and school employee retirements. Legislation such as this will help Virginia’s public schools improve and determine how they can better serve their students and staff during this time.
Virginia’s public schools have a duty to ensure that students have equitable access to resources during this pandemic, which is why we support this significant legislation.
