Virginia NAACP Disturbed By Richmond Times Dispatch Reporter’s Disrespect Towards Virginia’s First Black Governor

RICHMOND – Today, Virginia State Conference NAACP President Robert N. Barnette, Jr., issued the following statement in response to a tweet published earlier today by Richmond Times Dispatch reporter Jeff E. Schapiro:

“The Virginia NAACP is disturbed by the clear lack of respect from veteran Richmond Times Dispatch Reporter Jeff Schapiro in his tweet referencing Gov. Wilder earlier today.

There simply is no excuse for Virginia’s only Black governor to be disrespected in this way by a reporter of a respected news organization.

We call upon Mr. Schapiro to retract his tweet and for the Richmond Times Dispatch to denounce this level of disrespect to Governor L. Douglas Wilder, Virginia’s native son.”
