RICHMONDVirginia State Conference NAACP President Robert N. Barnette, Jr., and Executive Director Da’Quan Marcell Love met with Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin, Lieutenant Governor-elect Winsome Sears, and Attorney General-elect Jason Miyares earlier today.

The in-person, hour-long meeting took place at the request of the Virginia NAACP with the goal of creating a positive working relationship with the incoming administration from the very beginning.

“We are encouraged by Governor-elect Youngkin’s willingness to facilitate productive dialog with the Virginia NAACP and to receive his commitment to be accessible, responsible, and transparent,” said President Barnette. “We look forward to working with the incoming administration particularly on areas of shared interest including: increasing funding for Virginia’s HBCU’s and expanding educational opportunities for Virginia’s children.”

For decades, the Virginia NAACP has met regularly with state officials to discuss matters of concern to Black and Brown Virginians. As a nonpartisan organization, the Virginia NAACP does not support or endorse candidates for public office.

ABOUT THE VIRGINIA NAACP
Chartered in 1935, the NAACP Virginia State Conference (Virginia NAACP) is the oldest and largest nonpartisan civil rights organization in the Commonwealth. The Virginia NAACP advocates, agitates, and litigates for civil rights due to Black Virginians. Representing over 100 NAACP adult branches, youth councils, and college chapters, together, we fight to build the social and political power required to abolish racial discrimination in localities throughout Virginia.
